Crop Canopy Moisture
What is a Crop Canopy Moisture Map?
A Crop Canopy Moisture Map shows the spatial variation in above ground crop moisture for an area of interest defined by the customer. The map is produced using proprietary algorithms and taking advantage of the spectral and spatial attributes of medium spatial resolution satellite imagery.
How can the map be used?
The canopy moisture map is used to support irrigation management for crops such as cotton as excess and insufficient soil moisture are both known to cause fruit shed. Multi-temporal imagery collected during critical growth stages will show the spatial variation of canopy moisture over the field can be used to irrigated or stop irrigation of areas of the field under water stress.
Product value
Crop moisture content is critical for yield quality storage and processing requirements. For most crops, knowledge of moisture content is important for irrigation management and harvest decisions. Most cotton farmers are currently adopting a blanket irrigation application. This approach has environmental implications including leaching of chemicals and is costly.
GeoSpatial Partners canopy moisture map is used to support site-specific irrigation, reducing cost and nutrient leaching.
